TRAINING & E-LEARNING

Much of my research is focused on adult learning in both higher education and organizational training contexts. I am interested in the design of training interventions and their implications for learning. Computer-based training and online learning have quickly become important delivery methods in our technological world. Past projects have investigated:

a) the impact of learner choice on performance and satisfaction outcomes in online learning modules designed to teach forensic science (http://forensics.rice.edu, Locate in CV)

b) training with a partner vs training alone when using computer-based training to learn database software (Locate in CV)

c) using vignettes (SJTs) as training content to increase job knowledge and customer satisfaction with employees (Locate in CV)

d) developing an interactive training module to teach nurses and patients how to administer parenteral nutrition (Locate in CV)

PERSONNEL SELECTION

To improve personnel decisions, I am interested in talent assessments that measure more than cognitive ability. In particular, situational judgment tests (SJTs) are a useful method for evaluating job knowledge and predicting performance. Along with developing SJTs, I am evaluating the utility of a shortened development and testing process to enhance the ease with which organizations can implement SJTs as selection tools.
